Spacesuit Development and Qualification for Project Mercury

Jim McBarron has over 40 years of experience with U.S. Air Force pressure suit and NASA spacesuit development and operations. With the information he has collected as a result of his experience, he shared significant knowledge about Mercury’s full-pressure suit development and qualification program. Topics included suit selection, specification, system qualification, and production acceptance test requirements. McBarron also identified Mercury spacesuit modifications made for each mission and noteworthy lessons learned. He concluded the presentation by discussing an advanced spacesuit design proposed for the cancelled One-Day Mercury Program.
